Leadership Letter 15: 3X Conversion + 1,000 Hour Hack
Something to think about: Discipline doesn't take discipline once it's a habit.
Most Valuable Priorities (MVPs):
The Growth Flywheel: 3X your bottom line.
My #1 Time Hack: This makes me sick when I think about it.
Let’s dive in.
MVP 1: The Business Growth Flywheel
If you want to grow your business and raise your bottom line without increasing costs, focus on improving your conversion rate. That’s where the Business Growth Flywheel comes in. It’s a simple, repeatable process that builds momentum over time.
Here’s the deal: if you stop at any point in the flywheel, your conversion rate stalls. But if you implement all three phases, you can double or triple your conversion rate without spending an extra dime. Let me show you how.
Phase 1: Grow Your Database
Your database is the foundation of your business. The bigger your database, the more opportunities you have to close deals.
Example: Let’s say you currently have 1,000 people in your database, and 2% of them convert. That’s 20 customers.
If you grow your database to 2,000, even at the same 2% conversion rate, you’re now closing 40 customers.
Phase 1 is all about getting more people into your system. That starts by:
Advertising and marketing to your target audience (i.e. grow your social media following).
Moving those followers into your CRM.
Phase 2: Grow Your Authority
Once your database grows, the next step is to position your company as the expert people trust. Why? Because trust drives conversions.
Example: Let’s say your database is now 2,000 people, and by improving your authority, your conversion rate jumps from 2% to 4%. That’s now 80 customers instead of 40.
To grow your authority:
Distribute content your audience cares about (i.e. how-to videos or golf tournaments).
Pay attention to what performs well and do more of it.
Personalize your messaging.
When people see you as the go-to expert, they’re far more likely to choose you over the competition.
Phase 3: Grow Your Conversion
Here’s where the flywheel gets exciting. A bigger database and higher authority create the foundation to significantly raise your conversion rate. The secret? Repeat and referral customers convert at much higher rates than other sources.
Example: Industry averages show that referral customers convert at 25–30%, compared to 2–5% for cold leads.
Why? Because trust is already established. When your past customers rave about your business, new prospects come in warm and ready to buy.
Every repeat or referral customer you bring in doesn’t just boost your bottom line—it feeds back into Phase 1 by expanding your database with higher-quality leads.
MVP 2: My Favorite Time Blocking Hack
Distraction is the biggest killer of productivity—and dollars.
On average, every distraction costs you 8 minutes to refocus.
Simple Math: 8 min x 25 distractions per day = 3.3 hours per day x 300 working days per year = 990 hours lost per year.
That’s 40% of your year gone. Wasted. Never to get back.
Not including the exponential growth you would have had if you had it back…
Ouch. :(
The Airplane Mode Strategy
I learned this from Darren Hardy years ago, and it’s as simple as it gets:
Think about being on a plane. When you’re 30,000 feet in the air, you’re cut off from the world. Nothing can interrupt you.
Apply that same focus to your most important tasks. For 30–90 minutes, turn your phone on airplane mode, ignore emails, and focus on one thing.
PRO TIP: I have an airplane sign on my desk. When it's on, everyone in my office knows I'm off limits.
OTHER NOTE: The first time you do this, you'll probably twiddle your thumbs for half the allotted time. It's amazing what you can do when you're focused.
Do the little things,
Cody
P.S. If you’re flywheel isn’t running the way it should, let me know, and I’ll send you our Formula, which breaks down exactly what to do based on the issue you’re having.
